Pat Pisarsky and his 16-pound, 8-ounce walleye
caught from Fort Peck in 2001.

Excerpt from an e-mail to WU.com from Chris Peccia received on Feb. 24, 2004:

Thought I'd share a fishing story and a few photos from a fishing trip a couple buddies and I took to Fort Peck in January of 2001. We were fishing out of Crooked Creek and camped on Fort Peck in a wall tent for five days and didn't do too badly.

The angler in yellow is Pat Pisarsky of Helena. On the afternoon of the 22nd, Pat was lucky enough to catch the walleye of a lifetime. The fish measured 31 inches and weighed an unbelievable 16 pounds, 8 ounces on a certified scale in Lewistown. Obviously very close to the Spence fish (the state record at 16-10). The real kicker is the fish was out of water for about two hours while we decided whether or not to run to Lewistown to officially weigh the fish. Not a good move.

We weighed it on a Deliar and it weighed close to 17 lbs. Panic time. We knew it was close to the record but when it came up short we elected to be fairly closed-mouth about it.

While Pat and Justin Noble ran to Lewistown, I caught a 12-pound walleye (measuring 30.75 inches) about 30 feet from the location of the larger fish. (Click here to see Chris Peccia's 12-pounder) What an afternoon to remember.

We kept pretty quiet about it for a couple of years but decided that it was important to share fish stories such as this with other die-hard walleye anglers.

I included a picture of my twelve pounder for the 12+ club. Wish I was in the 16+ club like Pisarsky! -- Chris Peccia
