Fort Peck Walleye Spawn Update: April 22, 2008 Another 6 million eggs added to the walleye total From HEATH HEADLEY Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks BIG DRY ARM, Fort Peck Reservoir -- Our trap nets were not as bountiful as the previous day. It seems like the continued cold temperatures (lower 40's) have really slowed the fish down. As a result, we only collected around a dozen ripe and green female walleyes. We did however have enough ripe females from the day before and some additional fish ripen up in our holding pens to hold another spawn. A lot of the female walleye that were ready to go seemed to be averaging around 10 pounds. The hatchery guys ended up spawning 41 females, which should give us close to 6 million more eggs to add to the collection.
