Walleyes Forever

Fort Peck Walleye Spawn Update: April 25, 2008

Some really nice walleyes are being caught.

Water temps remain cold
but the ciscoes like hit

From HEATH HEADLEY

BIG DRY ARM, Fort Peck Reservoir -- Cold water temperatures continue to plague the walleye spawning operation up here on Fort Peck. Once again, water temperatures are ranging from 39 to 42 degrees.

It looks like we brought in 11 green and 5 ripe female walleye from today's netting efforts. Holding pens only offered an additional 3 or 4 ripe females.

In contrast to the walleye spawning operation, the cisco really seem to be enjoying these colder water temperatures.

We did decide to take advantage of the somewhat calmer winds and set six additional trap nets plus a merwin.

It does look like we will see some nicer weather in the upcoming week, but I am uncertain as to how long it will last. Hopefully we will see a surge in ripe female walleye numbers. If this is the case, we will be ready with the additional nets that were set.

Ciscoes like the water temperatures.
