Fort Peck Walleye Spawn Update: April 26, 2008

Walleyes are sorted in the holding pens.

Wind makes for big rollers
so no nets could be checked

BIG DRY ARM, Fort Peck Reservoir -- Wind is the word today. The northwest wind really got the waves building down the Big Dry Arm of Fort Peck.

It sounded like wind gusts were up to 38 mph. As a result of the "rollers", we were unable get out and check our trap nets. The only task we were able to perform today was sorting out the green and ripe females in our holding pens.

This was even a little precarious at times when the platforms would shift back and forth with the waves. The holding pens only supplied a half dozen ripe females. It looks like we will hold our next spawn tomorrow or the following day.

If you're interested in spending a day, two or three as a volunteer on the Walleye Spawn in 2008, call the Fort Peck fisheries office at (406) 526-3471 or the Glasgow regional office at (406) 228-3700.
