Fort Peck Walleye Spawn Update: May 5, 2008

Only a few ripe stragglers
are coming into the nets

From HEATH HEADLEY

BIG DRY ARM, Fort Peck Reservoir -- Water temperatures continue warm, but there are no signs that walleye spawn is about to turn around.

With the calm, sunny days, water temperatures in the shallows are quickly warming up to 55 degrees.

We only collected 10 ripe, 3 spent, and 2 green female walleye from today's nets. It looks like from here on out, we will just see a few ripe stragglers.

We did hold another spawn today from 22 females which should give us around 4.7 million more eggs to add to the total. By the looks of things, we will start to wrap things up within the next week and try to hold one last spawn.
