Canyon Ferry netting update: April 24, 2008

Wintry storm shuts down
Canyon Ferry netting efforts

From ERIC ROBERTS
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks

I just wanted to update you that I don't have much of an update. After the big fish came in last Friday, the winter storm moved in and shut everything down.

By Sunday, both Merwins were blown in and were covered by a good two inches of ice. Water temps dropped to the lower 30s, so we gave things a few days to thaw out and we are just now getting fishing again.

My feeling is that this storm came at a critical time of the spawn--just as the water temperatures were moving into the upper 40s and approaching 50. We are going to try to keep things fishing for the next week or so, but I'm not sure we are going to see a whole lot (hopefully I'm wrong).

Attached is a picture of the Duck Creek trap on Sunday.

Volunteers are always welcome--for more details call Steve Dalbey at 495-3363 and leave a message.
