Walleyes Forever

Canyon Ferry netting update: April 4, 2008

A rainbow and a ling were caught Thursday.

No walleyes moving yet
in first week of trapping

Just a quick note on what we've found in our nets this week. We had two Merwins fishing this week and so far all we have caught has been about a dozen rainbows, 6 suckers, a ling and 3 perch.

Water temps are still pretty cold, with a temp of 36 on Friday morning. Both Merwins seem to be fishing pretty well. I think there just isn't much moving right now. A gigantic ice sheet was floating toward Duck Creek this morning, plus the forecast for the weekend looked pretty rough, so we pulled up the anchors on the traps pushed them into shore for the weekend. We'll get two traps fishing again on Monday, and we will probably get the other two Merwins out sometime next week.

On another note, we've made arrangements with the National Guard to drop Christmas trees into the lake on Thursday, April 10. They will get started around 10-11:00 and it will probably take a couple of hours to get all the trees lifted into the lake. In total there are about 75 large bundles of trees and blocks that will become perch habitat. Lots of folks dedicated time, money, and effort to the Christmas tree project this year, and it will be good to see the trees finally go into the lake.

That's what we've been up to. Have a good weekend!
