North Middle School Fishing Club
trip to East Fork Reservoir
Pat Volkmar and some members of the Great Falls Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited led the North Middle School Fishing Club on a January, 2007, ice fishing field day on East Fork Reservoir, which is near Lewistown.
Volkmar reported:
Great day to take group kids out fishing. Have to give special thanks to Bob Bahr local Great Falls WU member who got us pointed to this pond. Also Big thanks to David Snyder of Dons Store for help on bait directions and where to fish.
The fishing was great over 350 perch caught most between 5 to 9 inches. The average was 5 3/4 inches. It was a great bite. Had kids that caught their first fish ever and many kids that had never been very sucessful before catch over 30 perch. This was great for under 4 hours fishing.
At the request of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the club kept the fish to be used in fisheries education classes across Montana run by FWP's youth angling coordinator Dave Hagengruber. Normally, the club practices total catch-and-release on all fish that aren't taken home to be eaten by the youths' families.
