With forecasts calling for inclement weather, many teams opted not to fish the 15th Annual Jordan Tough Guy Walleye Tournament. But 25 teams with brave hearts elected to chance the weather and were treated to an outstanding day on Fort Peck Lake.
The tournament was far from the expected tough with temperatures rising to above 50 degrees at midday. Winds were moderate and fishing was much better than expected.
With the ice only off for 3 days most teams caught their limits (5 fish) even though they were small males.
At the conclusion of the day, Dave and Randy Snyder of Lewistown had topped the leaderboard with 12.1 pounds (5 fish). Dave has fished many of the events and been through the brutal conditions. 2008 was a welcome reprive for him. Former partner Mike Ruh of Stanford may regret not making the trip this year, but Mike's loss was brother Randy's gain as he and Dave begin 2008 as the first crowned walleye champions of the year.
The Jordan Chapter of Walleyes Unlimited hosted their annual walleye banquet on Friday night with approximately 130 people in attendance. The chapter raised approximately $10,000 which will be utilized for both community and fishery programs in the area. In the past five years, the Jordan Chapter has contributed approximately $40,000 to local programs.
The Jordan Chapter wishes to thank all who contribute and offer congratulations to Dave and Randy Snyder on their victory. -- Joe Herbold, tourney director
